What is Woder 10k-gen 3?

Well, Woder 10K-Gen3 is a typical filter with a longer ingredient list. You have microparticles doing the job of removing lead, heavy metals, chlorine, chromium 6, mercury, carcinogens, organic particles like cysts and so on. This is what the manufacturer claims. For the real results, check the section „how does it do in real life?”

The numbers?

Well, you are looking at about 3 years of performance with no issue. You may need to switch up the filter (we’ll talk about it later), but overall the machine will last long enough.

When it comes to flow, we’re at 2 GPM. This is about average. You should not use it on the water out of the 43-100 degrees range and the pressure is also about average: 125 PSI. We’re not looking at any fantastic numbers here, except the 3-year use.

What is it made of?

Many focus too much about the water and forget that the filter should be sustainable as well! This is a BPA-free, vinyl chloride plastic. It’s about 3 pounds heavy (1.6 kilos) and the dimensions are 3 x 3 x 15 inches. This is very important because you need to make sure it fits under your sink!

How do I install it?

The Woder 10K-Gen3 is pretty DIY oriented. A filter, The pieces will be in the box, named and all laid out. Your job is to install it. It’s not very complicated to understand the whole thing, so don’t worry about calling the plumber.

15 minutes are more than enough for you to set this thing up and it’s just connected to the cold water line. This means you are not getting an extra faucet.

How does it do in real life?

There have been pretty detailed researches done about this filter and we have to admit that it’s pretty devastating. It claims to remove 99.99% of the lead in your water, but it actually removes 93% only. The EPA says no more than 0.015 ppm are okay, but the amount left in your water after filtration is 2.3 ppm.

Chlorine removal was much more efficient, with the real test actually proving what the manufacturer claims. We can’t argue with them here.

We already talked about salt when we talked about minerals, but we have to mention once again: this filter does not remove any kind of salt. Literally, they tested it on 7 kinds of salts, none worked.

Does the water taste good?

You would be wondering if the water is any good after seeing the numbers provided in the paragraph before this one, and the answer is: it’s not really that special.

Actually, it tastes a bit stale and doesn’t really feel the way clean water does. Worst case scenario, it doesn’t even change the taste of your water.

Replacement cartridge

Okay, so eventually you notice the system doesn’t filter the water as good as it used to do. What now? Well, to begin with, you might want to get a new water filter.

The Woder 10k-gen3 replacement filter costs is a little bit higher, which makes a lot of people wonder if buying a new system is a better option. The filter has silver carbon and lead-absorbent as active ingredients and it is supposed to clean a lot of things (states in the first few paragraphs) but doesn’t really do that great of a job.

Woder 10K-Gen3 weighs one pound only and the installation is pretty simple. You just roll one out and roll the other one in. A lot of water filters actually work pretty much the same way.

Keep in mind that people are also divided in opinions when it comes to the amount of time you can use one filter. Some claim that the system didn’t last three months, some claim that it lasts three years. It’s all up to your use, really.

Pros:

  • This water filter will not remove any natural essential minerals like calcium! You don’t need to worry about not getting your daily intake. This will cause the water to have a „not-completely-pure” taste, so if you are used to “sterile” water, this may have an odor. It also leaves potassium, sodium, magnesium, phosphorus, and chloride in your water. We were confused about the last one.
  • It is NSF certified, which means that it has been researched and for sure is safe.
  • Installation takes 15 minutes and you don’t need to pay the plumber to do the work.
  • It lasts 10 000 gallons!

Cons:

  • The biggest issue with this water filtration system is that it works well only with cold water and it can’t deal with salty or softened water. Keep that in mind because different living locations have different water.
  • You don’t get a faucet, it’s just connected to your regular cold water line.
  • It cannot be connected to hot water at all, but most people use water filters for the water they drink only, which is rarely hot.
  • Depending on what you’re doing with the water, you may experience a little bit of waiting sometimes because the pressure is about average.
  • Real life tests prove that it doesn’t actually filter anything besides chlorine.

Summary

Overall, the number of cons is larger than the number of pros. This seems like a good budget option, to begin with, if you’re not too obsessed with getting perfect water. This system will last, but it’s not anything special, really. It’s not more than just an average filter.

Although the manufacturer claims really nice things about the filter, there have been many mixed opinions about it because of the price vs. quality ratio. It’s all up to the case, the amount of toxins in the water and the pressure in the plumbing.

It seems that you can see the flaws only if you’re approaching with scientific facts. It’s up to you to decide if you’d like to invest in something else or not.
