The Numbers

Let’s start right away with the essential statistics, should we? This water filter can filter about 200 gallons before you need to put in a new replacement cartridge. The manufacturer stayed safe in the lane and said that this would be about two months of use. The reality is that you may use this filter for as long as six months if you use a gallon a day.

This water filter usually has a warranty between 2 and 5 years, which will be more than enough. However, this is for the filter, not the filter cartridges! Culligan is an old-school brand, though, and you don’t need to worry much about the quality of their products.

The flow is at about 0.5 GPM, it’s not the best, but it certainly won’t make you annoyed.

The Switch

Just like any great product, the Culligan water filter lets you switch between the filtered and the unfiltered water. It has a great extra feature where you have to change it to “filtered” after each use, so you don’t accidentally use the filtered water and waste away the filter’s power for the water you’re going to use for cleaning.

NSF certified

A water filter needs to be professionally reviewed and approved by the NSF. This particular filter has both the NSF 42 certificate and the NSF 53 certificate, and both of these testify to the quality of the filtration.

The Filtering

The critical question – what does this filter remove? Well, it removes all sediments, chlorine, lead, atrazine, and bigger particles. The NSF certificate attests to the fact that the percentage of efficiency is quite high!

The Installation

This filter literally takes a few minutes to put up. It fits almost all faucets, except handheld ones and those that have been mainly designed for a particular kitchen. You can quickly put the filter up without too much experience or any tools!

First, you need to get rid of the aerator from the original faucet and save it for later. Now you have to screw-on the adapter and the washer, but don’t use any tools, do it by hand. After that, you attach the filter to the faucet, tighten it by hand and turn on the water.

Don’t forget to pull out the diverter tap and let the water flow for 10 minutes before you try it! If you’re still worried about the installation, don’t worry, the manufacturer provided a YouTube video to help you with that!

When you’re replacing the cartridge, you need to unscrew the cap under the housing, remove the old filter and put in the replacement. You just screw it back in. Be gentle in order not to break the house! Flush the water, as previously mentioned.

Pros:

  • easy to install and maintain
  • budget-friendly
  • removes most toxins
  • great customer service

Cons:

  • unknown efficiency when it comes to organic compounds

Summary

The Culligan FM-25 filter is an excellent choice for those who are worried about the taste and the smell of their water. If you’re someone that’s worried about the organic compounds, though, we will check another product.

This one is very premium when it comes to inorganic stuff, and the NSF certificates prove that, but the organic compound part is not that clear to us. Many have said that this filter is just about what you would expect for the price – good, but certainly not perfect.
